PLBD Nineteen-Dance Summer School 2025
The first day of summer lessons will be Wednesday, May 21.
Welcome (back) to the ballroom! PLBD will hold summer lessons Wednesday evenings and Sunday late afternoons in Annenberg Dance Studio. We have four series of classes: Standard (Bronze), Standard (Advanced), Latin/Rhythm, and American Smooth. Here is the weekly schedule:
Wednesdays:
- 5pm to 6pm: Open practice
- 6pm to 7pm: Latin/Rhythm
- 7pm to 8pm: American Smooth
- 8pm to 9pm: Open practice
Sundays:
- 3pm to 4pm: Open practice
- 4pm to 5pm: Standard (Bronze)
- 5pm to 6pm: Standard (Advanced)
- 6pm to 7pm: Open practice
Standard lessons will be taught by Kevin Lu, Shannon Julian, Jonny Lu, and Evelynne Chin. Standard (Bronze) is suitable for anyone who has had some previous experience in Standard (including people who went to Newcomer Standard during the past year). Standard (Advanced) is more advanced and intended for people who regularly compete and make the final in silver Standard and above.
Latin/Rhythm lessons will be taught by Peter Tran and Angelia Wang. The class will alternate between International Latin and American Rhythm. All are welcome.
American Smooth lessons will also be taught by Peter Tran and Angelia Wang. This class focuses on bronze and silver Smooth syllabus and is ideal for people with some exposure to Standard (including people who went to Newcomer Standard during the past year) who want to branch out to an adjacent style. All are welcome.
For the first six weeks (May 21 to June 29), the price for the six-week series is $48 for each level/style (this works out to $8 for each hour of lesson). We strongly encourage everyone to pay for the six-week series in advance, as this will greatly simplify accounting for us. Please pay by Venmo: our account name is @Tomas-Wille (in your Venmo note, please specify which of the levels/styles you are paying for). If you run into any technical issues with paying or if you have a special circumstance, please speak to a board member at one of the lessons!
To enter the Annenberg Dance Studio, use this door across the street from the Louie Louie restaurant.

PLBD summer lessons assume that you have had some previous exposure to ballroom dance. If you are brand new to ballroom dance, we encourage you to join our newcomer cohort in Fall 2025!
Schedule of Classes and Practice Space for Spring 2025
(The information belong applies to the Spring 2025 semester and not to the 2025 summer lessons. It is being kept here for historical reference.)
Throughout the school year, PLBD offers weekly lessons in International Standard (waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, foxtrot, and quickstep) and International Latin (cha-cha, samba, rumba, paso doble, and jive) styles of ballroom dance. Members of our team are welcome to take any lessons we offer. We don’t hold any auditions and no experience or partners are required!
The first day of Standard class will be Sunday, January 19. The first day of Latin class will be Monday, January 20.
Standard classes will be taught on Sundays:
- Bronze: 11:00AM to noon (Weightman)
- Intermediate (silver) : noon to 1PM (Weightman)
- Advanced (gold): 1PM to 2PM (Weightman)
- Newcomer (no previous ballroom experience): 2:15PM to 3:15PM (Annenberg)
- About the Standard class levels: “Newcomer” class is intended for people who are complete beginners at International Standard. “Bronze” is intended for people with some previous experience in Standard, including those who joined as newcomers in Fall 2024. “Intermediate” is meant for people who are at least familiar with the bronze-level syllabus of Standard. “Advanced” is meant for people who have 7 or more bronze points in Standard competitions (i.e., “pointed out of bronze”), or people who regularly register and place at silver or above levels in Standard competitions.
Latin classes will be taught on Mondays (all in Annenberg):
- Bronze syllabus: 7:00PM – 8:00PM
- Techniques and drills (all levels): 8:00PM – 9:00PM
- Newcomer syllabus and beginner choreography: 9:00PM – 10:00PM
- About the Latin class levels: If you are a returning member of PLBD (including if you joined as a newcomer in Fall 2024), we encourage you to attend the “bronze syllabus” class from 7PM to 8PM to learn new steps from the bronze Latin syllabus. If you are completely new to International Latin, you should attend the 9PM to 10PM class, which is intended as an introductory class that assumes no past experience. This class will cover some beginner-friendly choreography — depending on interest, this may be performed as a group piece at the PLBD spring showcase! Finally, the 8PM to 9PM class covers Latin techniques and drills, and is open to all levels.
Open practice space (subject to change each week!)
- Sundays 3:15PM to 4:00PM (Annenberg)
- Tuesdays 5PM to 6PM (Annenberg)
- Wednesdays 5PM to 6PM (Annenberg)
- Thursdays 5PM to 6PM (Annenberg)
- Fridays 5PM to 8PM! (Annenberg)
