Meet Our Board!
Vice President: Xiang Chen
Xiang is a senior studying Computer Science and Master’s in Robotics. He started dancing in Spring 2025 and loves the distinct vibe of Standard dances! Outside ballroom, you can find him goofing around with friends or enjoying good food around Philly.
Team Captain & Social Chair: Tanvi Mayya
Tanvi is a sophomore double majoring in Biochemistry and Biology, and she intends to go to graduate school to pursue Veterinary Medicine and a PhD. She started ballroom dancing in January of 2025 and she loves exploring different styles. Currently, her favorite styles include bolero, jive, and any smooth style dances. She can’t wait for this upcoming season!
Secretary: Nam Tran
Nam studies systems biology and joined PLBD in Fall 2024. His favorite style is tango – both international and smooth. If you linger around Penn Park long enough, you might catch a glimpse of Nam trying to tame the wild squirrels.
Social Media Chair: Anya Stewart
Anya is a junior studying Bioengineering with a double minor in Creative Writing and American Sign Language & Deaf Studies. She’s been dancing with PLBD for three years and her favorite styles are tango and samba! When she’s not dancing, you can find her twirling for the Penn Band, learning new languages, or reading on her balcony.
Advisor: Ella Hayward-Lara
Ella joined ballroom her freshman year of college with no previous dance experience, and quickly fell in love with the welcoming community of collegiate ballroom. Since coming to Penn, she has served in various roles to help the club recover post-COVID, and is thrilled to now take a step back and serve as advisor for the new board!
