Color Guard
Who Are We?
The Color Guard is the show-stopping, jaw-dropping, always-popping visual section of the University of Pennsylvania Band. We are a group of students with a passion for performance and are always down for a good time, whether that be spinning flags, rifles, & sabres on Franklin Field, cheering on our athletics teams in the Palestra, or just hanging out around campus. Check out our latest halftime show!
Who Can Join?
Anyone can join! From incoming first-years to graduate students, we are open to anyone and everyone regardless of experience.
How Do I Join? Is There an Audition?
No prior experience is required, hence, there is no formal audition process to join the Guard. Simply show up to our Monday Night rehearsals at the Platt Performing Arts Center from 6-8pm and spin with us!
What is the Time Commitment?
Guard performs year-long with the Band at various campus events. During the fall semester, we focus on football halftime performances (two, two-hour rehearsals a week), and during the spring semester we are in the stands with Poms–and equipment too–for basketball games (one two-hour rehearsal a week). We also participate in community-wide events throughout the academic year, such as Hey Day.
Attendance is not mandatory for games and/or rehearsals, allowing Guard to be as much or as little commitment as you’d like! Commit to games on a week-by-week basis, and you only need to come to the rehearsals associated with those games.
What is the Cost?
Your uniform is included in your annual dues ($35). With this payment, you will have access to all the PB’s color guard equipment and your head-to-toe uniform (including garment, gloves, and shoes). In addition, all away game transportation and hotel arrangements are covered by the band. If cost is an obstacle, please contact our guard captains using the contact information below.
What Equipment Will I Be Using?
Throughout the course of the year, you will have the opportunity to learn and work with flags, swing flags, sabres, rifles, and poms. Equipment can be borrowed whenever requested, so long as it is returned by the end of the academic year.
Is it Too Late to Join?
Nope, we are always accepting new members 🙂 THE MORE THE MERRIER!
