In this NSF-funded project, we create virtual networks of cryospheric science scholars (Virtual Ice Community Engagement Squads) that cross geographic, career stage, and disciplinary boundaries. Reach out if you’d like to join!

The purpose of CryoCommunity is to build and foster a more just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive community and culture within the cryospheric sciences. CryoCommunity aims to share resources and best practices across the community and to advocate for the changes needed to create an equitable and inclusive culture.

While the ranks of women in early-career stages have been increasing in recent years, there is a critical gap in the mid-career phase. At the same time, climate science is in the midst of a shift. The needs of the public are growing more acute while internal challenges in academia remain. In this NSF project, we organize professional development and peer-support for a small community of mid-career cryosphere researchers.

We value teamwork, open communication, work-life balance, ethical science practices, and supporting each other. As a group, we developed our lab’s Code of Conduct, Field Safety Plan, and Individual Research Plan. These documents remind us of our priorities, open up lines of communication, keep us on track, and hold us accountable.
